The Penicillin was created by Bartender Sam Ross and first served at an award-winning bar in New York. Its medically influenced name comes from some of the ingredients, like Ginger and Honey, being used in home remedies.
It is often compared to a Hot Toddy, with many suggesting that it helps with symptoms of cold and flu. Creator Sam Ross credits his protegees for having gone about and spreading the drink, making it the popular ginger-lemon cocktail we know today. The specialty of this alcoholic drink was that very few mixes work well with Scotch, making the Penicillin an exception and bringing it into the books of the IBA (International Bar Association).
Our Penicillin cocktail recipe uses the Swa Honey Lemon Ginger Syrup, an energising natural blend of antioxidants, perfect for adding a balance of sweet and spicy. Made with zero preservatives, artificial ingredients and added colours, the natural flavours are kept intact for refreshing drinks. We've also added more of a tropical twist to this recipe, with some pineapple juice to further stretch out the flavours with sweet, sour and tangy notes; perfect for Whiskey.
